Apprenticeships for adults

Many people go through their whole working life wishing that they could turn back the clock and spend more time trying to get that highly prized apprenticeship they were hoping land before they got to the age of 20.  Well, we’re here to tell you that you should never give up on landing one, whether you’re in your mid-twenties or have already been working for twenty years.

In a nutshell, it’s never too late to start an apprenticeship.  Here at apprentice.tv we’ve seen men and women in their forties secure adult apprenticeships across a range of industries, and then go on to build successful careers with their employers after their apprenticeships came to an end.

So if you’re an adult considering a career change by seeking out an apprenticeship in an industry that you believe can offer you more than the one you’re already in, then you may well be in a better position than anybody else in the jobs market.  Having already secured an occupation where you’ve developed and used skills and abilities across a range of areas, potential employers will be reviewing your CV with two distinct things in mind:

Firstly, they’ll review your CV with a deserved admiration at your willingness to take one step back to take another three steps forward through their apprenticeship schemes; indication that you’re ambitious and willing to continually learn.  And secondly, those same employers will be reviewing that same CV and taking into account the depth of skills and experience you’ve already gained by being active in the workplace for a number of years.

There is a very common question that quickly follows those initial steps when adults begin to consider applying for an apprenticeship, and that question is:

Are there any age restrictions to applying for an apprenticeship?

The answer to that question is a clear ‘no’.  There are none, and it is actually against the law of the United Kingdom to place an age restriction on any job except for highly specialist government and defence positions that have some allowances.

There may be some differences in the way that some apprenticeships are funded for adults, but with the right guidance in finding the best company for you then securing an apprenticeship in the United Kingdom as an adult is just as straightforward as a teenager securing one.

So, whether you’re seeking an apprenticeship in the United Kingdom as a Painter and Decorator, or whether an advanced Information Technology apprenticeship is for you, apprentice.tv is here to guide you through the detailed processes of becoming what you always wanted to be, regardless of age.
